7 years after Robert Brookins left school he and his brother Michael Brookins were given a chance by Earth, Wind & Fire's Maurice White. Maurice then owned a CBS-distributed label called ARC records. They called themselves Afterbach and recorded only the one album known to date. The album received good reviews, lots of print promotion but gained few sales. The single It's you, which shared the b-side with The Emotions nearly made it to the charts. With the end of Afterbach Robert Brookins became a sought-after session musician which later on resulted in a solo career.
