Identical twin brothers
Taharqa and Tundera Aleem along with vocalist Leroy Burgess formed Aleem
in New York during the early 80's. After writing a series of tunes they
formed their own label, Nia Records, in an attempt to get their songs
out to the clubs where they thought they would create quite a stir. The
brothers had started their recording career with Jimi Hendrix on the album
Cry of love as The Ghetto Fighters, this experience along with the strength
of material such as Hooked on your love and Confusion made the expected
impact om the New York club scene and Aleem were signed by Atlantic Records
in 1985. Their debut album Casually formal, although critically well received,
failed to sell followed by a more successfull release of the 1987 album
Shock. The brothers now work primarily as producers.
