A native of St Louis, Missouri, Winbush moved to LA during the seventies and cut first musical teeth as a member of Stevie Wonder's band, Wonderlove. In 1977 she met Rene Moore and formed the writing and performance duo Rene & Angela, recording several albums for Capitol records, the most successful of which was Street named desire. The biggest hit on that LP was Your smile, led by a solo lead vocal from Winbush. After a bitter professional divorce from Moore in '86, Angela decided to seek a solo career. The following year her solo debut Sharp was released. At the same time she formed a private and professional relationship with Ronald Isley, whom she later married. As a writer she has provided hits for Stephanie Mills and Lalah Hathaway and she recently produced a reformed Isley Brothers. Her most recent album, Angela Winbush, included a killer cover of Marvin Gaye's Inner city blues and generally confirmed her reputation as one of America's leading femalesinger / songwriter / producer.
