East Coast brothers David, Jonathon and Wayne Lewis moved to L.A in mid-'70s and recruited six associates for Atlantic Starr. Group enjoyed modest success untill 1984, when singer Sharon Bryant quit for solo career (her subsequent projects included album with Jam & Lewis). When Bryant rejected proposed tracks, producers recycled them for Janet Jackson's Control. Starr's stock rose in 1985, when self-produced As the band turns spawned four hits, including classic Secret Lovers. Newly signed to Warner Brothers from A&M, band enjoyed another smash with Always, though this remained peak of six years with label. Best tracks would have to be Circles, In the heat of passion, Let the sun in, Second to none and Love crazy. 1994 found Atlantic Starr on Artista; line-up now trimmed to Lewis brothers plus singer Aisha Tanner - their third since Sharon Bryant's departure.
