In the admittedly small field of bass-playing child prodigies, Michael Henderson reigned supreme. He was only 13 when he played with the Fantastic Four, Detroit Emeralds and Billy Preston, Henderson had yet to turn 20 when he began a seven year association with Miles Davis (having previously toured with Aretha and Stevie). His solo career got underway when he teamed up with Norman Connors, on whose US hit You are my starship Henderson sang leadvocals. A series of albums on Buddah followed. Although he never became a major star, Henderson could boast a star-studded career; later associations including Phyllis Hyman, Bobby Womack, the Dramatics and Cherelle.
